Labour Ministry launches census on private sector job losses due to COVID-19

Launching a census on job losses in the private sector, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Labour Minister Nimal Sirpala de Silva sought public support to collect information on the individuals who lost their employments.


He announced that the Labour Department has launched a census to collect information on job losses in the private sector, due to direct and indirect consequences of the pandemic, which could be due to termination by the employer or due to difficulties in reporting to work. 


The Labour Ministry noted that the census would be utilised to grant concessions in the future. 


Accordingly, the individuals who lost their employments due to COVID-19 have been requested to submit details such as their name, personal address, contact details, date of termination,  the details  of their former employer and the last basic salary received to the Labour Department by post, before April 1, this year.


Commissioner General of Labour K. Prabath Chandrakeerthi noted that the details also could be submitted by email ([email protected]).
