  • Country opens borders to fully vaccinated travellers with negative test result
  • Swiss Int’l Airlines to offer two weekly flights between Colombo and Zurich

Sri Lankans will be able to visit Switzerland without any restrictions from September, with the country opening its borders to fully vaccinated travellers.

The travellers will no longer need to undergo the quarantine process, provided they are fully vaccinated and produce a negative test result at the time of boarding their flight from Colombo.

To encourage Sri Lankans to resume travel to the region, Swiss International Airlines announced it would offer two weekly flights operated by Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss, between Colombo and Zurich for business and
private travel.

In a statement to the media, Swiss International Airlines said the customers departing to Zurich would have access to Lufthansa Group’s vast European network, with excellent flight connections to almost every other European country.

However, to board the aircraft in Colombo, the passengers need to fulfil the entry requirements of their ultimate destination.

“We are delighted to have Swiss restrictions fall for flights from
Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is one of our most important leisure destinations in all of Asia. Our flights will offer customers state-of-the-art safety and hygiene standards that are among the highest in the industry, top-notch comfort and service in all classes as well as numerous flight connections from Zurich to top destinations in Europe,” said Lufthansa Group Head of South Asia George Ettiyil.

Ettiyil added that Lufthansa Group Airlines would partner with United Ventures as its new general sales agency (GSA) for the Sri Lankan market, as soon as September 1. “With United Ventures, we have nothing less than a top-notch service provider supporting us in what is a crucial market for our South Asian airline business,” pointed
out Ettiyil.
