Lankem Ceylon PLC, an importer and distributor of chemicals, namely agro-chemicals, industrial chemicals, bituminous products, consumer products and paints, this week announced that plans are underway to establish a fertiliser plant in the
Anuradhapura district.

Phase one of this project will be set up in Oyamaduwa. The capital investment and initial working capital requirement is estimated at Rs.2.5 billion.
A new company, Lankem Minerals Limited, a fully-owned subsidiary of Lankem Ceylon PLC, was incorporated on October 31, 2023, to carry out the said project.
“The primary objective of this operation is to cater to the agricultural requirement of the non-perennial crops,” Lankem Ceylon said in a filing to the Colombo Stock Exchange
on Thursday.
The sales and distribution of the fertiliser will be carried out by Lankem Ceylon PLC and its fully-owned subsidiary SunAgro LifeScience Limited, through the companies’ existing distributor network.
Commercial operations are expected to commence by the end of the year.
