Sri Lanka’s largest importer and supplier of LP gas, Litro Gas Lanka, is gearing up to establish an oxygen manufacturing plant and distribution network in Kerawalapitiya, to ensure the country does not fall short in its oxygen supply as it grapples with the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following an instruction given by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Presidential Task Force Head Basil Rajapaksa, the state-of-the-art oxygen manufacturing facility will be constructed over a land area
of 25 acres.

Justifying the need of the project, Litro Gas Lanka said, “As the country experiences an increasing need for oxygen to treat COVID-19-affected patients, the health authorities have conveyed to the Presidential Task Force that a greater need is likely to occur for oxygen.”

In a statement to the media, the gas importer acknowledged that the companies supplying oxygen to the market at present are able to meet the current daily requirements of 90 metric tonnes. However, to ensure there is no shortage, a directive was received from the heads of the government to set up an oxygen plant and provide a seamless supply of oxygen to meet the need.

Furthermore, Litro Gas Lanka shared that the land for the project has already been procured from Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation. The purchase agreement for the same was inked yesterday.

Keeping with the state evaluation of land value, it has already placed an advance payment of Rs.500 million towards the purchase of the land.

Litro Gas Lanka added that as Sri Lanka’s national LPG provider, it plans to undertake the nationally critical venture under the aegis of the Presidential Task Force and would contribute towards providing the much-needed support for the country’s COVID-19-affected
hospital network.

Litro Gas Lanka holds 75 percent market share, has a network of 42 distributors, over 14,000 points of sale, 1,500 home delivery hubs and a seamless supply of LPG throughout
Sri Lanka.
