Engineering firm Luminex PLC secured the tender to clean up the Kankasanthurei cement factory complex by collecting iron and other metal parts.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies Minister, on Monday sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to award the procurement to Luminex PLC, which emerged as the substantially responsive bidder eligible as per the recommendations of the procurement committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Although six bids were received for the procurement for cleaning the factory complex by collecting iron and other metal parts scattered in the cement factory complex, the Government Information Department noted that three bids were rejected as they got disqualified as per the bid documents.

Luminex is a publicly quoted engineering company specialising in the fields of telecommunication, electrical and water and sewerage and civil constructions.

Investment Promotion State Minister Dilum Amunugama in May revealed that the government is in negations with the Canada-based entrepreneurs of Sri Lankan origin to build a US $ 500 million industrial park in Kankasanthurei, linked to the Kankasanthurei Port.
