Macksons Holdings, the manufacturer of Multilac paints and Macktiles floor tiles, yesterday became the first private sector company to announce a salary hike for its employees in line with the government’s relief package announced on Monday, which gave Rs.5, 000 allowance to all public sector employees, starting from January.

The company said it announced a minimum per head salary increment Rs.5, 000 for entire workforce across the group just hours after the government’s announcement.

“The increment came hours after the government announced that State sector workers would be given a Rs.5000 pay hike and was made in keeping with the request made by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa,” a press release issued by Macksons Holdings said.

Macksons Group CEO Shimmer Milfer said it is the responsibility of every employer to prioritise the needs and wellbeing of their employees during these difficult and uncertain times.
Macksons Holdings has over 3,000 employees.
