Maldives achieves record tourist arrivals in May

The Maldives witnessed record tourist arrivals in the month of May, with a total of 125,522 international visitors visiting the nation of islands.

The May figures surpassed the 2019 May record of 103,022 tourist arrivals. The cumulative arrivals for the first five months of 2022 stood at 702,302. 

Just as for Sri Lanka, the top source market for the Maldives was India, which accounted for 13.6 percent of the total arrivals. The UK and Russia rank as the second and third largest tourist traffic generators, again similar to Sri Lanka, contributing to 12.5 percent and 9.6 percent of the arrivals for the month.

Data from the Maldives Tourism Ministry showed that a total of 1,180 tourist accommodation facilities are in operation for the year 2022. This includes resorts, guesthouses, safari vessels and hotels. The total operating capacity is currently recorded as 54,852 beds.
