As the Central Bank is stepping up its efforts to be more transparent, there is a possibility for the public to peruse the meeting minutes of the Monetary Board.
Responding to a question posed by the media, a senior official of the monetary authority yesterday said it could
be a possibility.
“That should be the standard and we will possibly be able to do that in the future. However, as of now, there is no decision in that regard,” a senior official of the Central Bank said, while addressing the media yesterday at a briefing. As of now, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka only releases a monetary policy statement after each Monetary Board meeting. The statement provides an overview of the board’s decision on the policy interest rates and rationale behind it.

With the launch of the Monetary Policy report, the Central Bank said it strives to improve its transparency and accountability by communicating the rationale for the recent monetary policy decisions taken.
In the global scene, the Federal Reserve of the United States, European Central Bank and Bank of England are among those that release the minutes of the monetary policy meetings.
