NDB Bank, along with the youth wing of the Wildlife & Nature Protection Society (WNPS), celebrated World Environment Day 2024 (WED24) with a specially curated programme for the British School of Colombo. The sessions were curated to inspire transformative action to celebrate, protect and restore our planet, relating to the theme of WED24, which is ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’.

The objective of this event was to raise awareness about reforestation and engage the school community in meaningful activities that promote sustainable reforestation.

In the first phase of the programme, the children were immersed in learning about the environment, endemic species, flora and fauna of Sri Lanka and the on-going challenges the natural world faces, including deforestation and pollution. Interactive activities were also conducted to enable the students to retain the knowledge they gained from the awareness session.

The event concluded with a tree planting ceremony, where the students painted the large pots for the trees with environmental themes. This symbolic gesture of tree planting allowed the students to contribute directly to the greening of the community while showing their commitment to the environment.
