National tea sales average expands in May

National tea sales average for the month of May 2024 recorded Rs. 1,266.80 (US$ 4.25), showing an increase of Rs. 49.95 (US$ 0.16) in comparison with the April 2024 average of Rs. 1,216.85 (US$ 4.09).

In comparison to the May 2023 average of Rs. 1,055.45 (US$ 3.43), sales average showed a positive variance of Rs. 211.35 and an increase of US$ 0.83 Year-on-Year (YoY).

Elevation wise, High Grown average for the month recorded an increase of Rs. 4.81 and US$ 0.01 month-on-month, whilst a decrease of Rs. 83.38 and a positive variance of US$ 0.10 are recorded YOY.

Medium Grown average for the month recorded a positive variance of Rs. 6.87 and US$ 0.02 month-on-month. However, in comparison to the corresponding period last year, it shows a decrease of Rs. 5.36 and an increase of US$ 0.32 YOY.

Low Grown average for the month recorded an increase both in LKR and US$ terms of Rs. 72.31 and US$ 0.24 month-on-month, whilst the YOY average shows an increase of Rs. 18.35 and US$ 0.47 in the corresponding period.

High & Mid Grown regions recorded negative variances during the period January-May 2024 in comparison to the corresponding period of 2023 in LKR terms, whilst all elevations record a positive variance in US dollar terms.
