National tea sales average reaches all-time high in August

  • Surpasses previous best of US $ 4.05 recorded in July 2022
  • All elevations record significant gains for January-August 2022 period

The national tea sales average for the month of August 2022 recorded Rs.1,508.21 (US $ 4.21), which is the highest ever recorded average for a calendar month, surpassing the previous best of Rs.1,448.13 (US $ 4.05) recorded in the month of July 2022. In comparison to the August 2021 average of Rs.589.46 (US $ 2.98), the total average shows a significant increase of Rs.918.75 year-on-year (YoY), whilst gaining 1.23 in US dollar terms as well.


Further, in US dollar terms, the August 2022 average of US $ 4.21 records an increase of US $ 0.16, when compared to the July 2022 average of US $ 4.05.


The highest ever High Grown average for the month – Rs.1,388.26, recorded an increase of Rs.183.69 month-on-month (MoM) vis-à-vis Rs.1,204.57 of July 2022. When compared to the August 2021 average of Rs.555.41, a significant increase of Rs.832.85 is recorded YoY, whilst in US dollar terms records an increase of US $ 1.08. 

 The highest ever Medium Grown average for a calendar month totalling Rs.1,236.14 (US $ 3.45) for August 2022 recorded an increase of Rs.83.85 MoM vis-à-vis Rs.1,152.29 (US $ 3.23) of July 2022. 


The Low Growns too recorded the highest ever average of Rs.1,616.24 (US $ 4.52) in August 2022, surpassing the previous best of Rs.1,608.57 (US $ 4.50) recorded in July 2022. 


All elevations record significant gains during the period of January-August 2022, when compared to the corresponding period of 2021, both in Sri Lankan rupee and US dollar terms.
