Ambassador of Republic of Korea Santhush Woonjin Jeong said the newly introduced relaxed visa regulations by Sri Lanka would help to attract more Korean investors to Sri Lanka.
Pointing out that Korea was the top most investor in Sri Lanka in the 1980s, Jeong said his country desires to regain that position by increasing investments.
He stated this when he called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to felicitate him on his appointment as the Premier.
Gunawardena said Korea has the opportunities now to invest in new sectors such as production of agricultural machinery, medicine and medical equipment and renewable energy and fisheries sectors.
He also pointed out the potential for exports to huge Indian market, utilising the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement. Jeong said several programmes, including a Korean film festival, would be held later this year to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Secretary to Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake was also present during the meeting.
