The offerings at the Colombo Tea Auction saw an improvement this week when compared with the last, with quantities totalling
4.96 MnKgs.
The offerings were met with good demand, the latest tea report by Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers highlighted.
The Ex-Estate offerings continued to be limited and totalled 0.6 MnKgs. The overall quality showed no change.
The prices for the Western High Grown BOP/BOPFs were
mostly firm.
The Nuwara Eliyas continued to be irregular and easier, following relatively uninteresting quality. The Uda Pussellawas were irregular and tended easier, whilst the Uvas declined up to Rs.50 per kg, on average.
The High and Mid Grown CTCs – BP1s had hardly any offerings, whilst the PF1s were irregular and easier by Rs.50 per kg and more. The corresponding Low Grown types continued to sell around last.
The Low Growns comprised 2.2 MnKgs.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues, the Select Best BOP1/OP1s gained, whilst the improved/clean Below Best varieties too gained to a lesser extent. The others and poorer sorts were fully firm. The well-made OP/OPAs in general were fully firm, whilst the Below Best varieties were irregular and at times easier. The teas at the lower end were fully firm. The PEK/PEK1s, in general, were fully firm to dearer following quality.
In the Tippy catalogues, the FBOPs in general were firm. The Select Best FF1s maintained, whilst the Best were easier. The Below Best and teas at the bottom sold around last levels.
In the Premium catalogues, very Tippy teas continued to attract good demand. The Best and cleaner Below Best were firm, whilst the balance was irregular, following quality.
