Omani firm secures deal to supply 1.8mn barrels of petrol to Sri Lanka

United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based OQ Trading Limited owned by the Government of Oman has won a long-term contract to supply 1.8 million barrels of petrol (92 Octane) for a period of 8 months.


In line with the recommendation of the Cabinet-appointed Standing Procurement Committee, Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila sought the approval of the Cabinet of Minsters to award the contract to OQ Trading Limited.


Accordingly, OQ Trading Limited would be supplying   1.8 million barrels of petrol (92 Octane) for a period of eight months starting from 15th of February this year until 
14th of October.


Earlier, the Sri Lankan government was seeking a US$ 3.6 billion fuel credit line from the Government of Oman. 
However, the proposed credit line was later abandoned due to disagreements over the conditions of the deal.
