Electricity sector regulator, Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) has asked the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit a report on the interruption of electricity supply that occurred on Monday without prior PUCSL approval.
A brief statement by PUCSL said the action was taken following inquiries and complaints from consumers on February 3. Sudden power failures were reported in Wattala, Ja-Ela, Kandana, Kelaniya, Maharagama, Boralesgamuwa, Nugegoda, Mirihana and Hikkaduwa on that day.
“The CEB must obtain prior approval from the PUCSL for every scheduled interruption of electricity supply as per Section 10 of the Condition 30 of the Electricity Transmission and Bulk Supply Licence issued by the PUCSL other than the interruptions necessary due to maintenance, which CEB gives prior notice to the public,” the PUCSL statement said.
