Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing, Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama said on the instructions of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing, Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the construction work of the Colombo Port City is accelerated to enable the completion of the project by 2021.

A 2-kilometer long stretch of the beach is now being developed and infrastructure development, including a beach stadium, a beach park, a children’s park and a yacht marina is due to begin soon.

Construction of the breakwater, which is 4.5 meters above sea level and 3.2 kilometers long has been completed.

The breakwater prevents large waves from reaching the shoreline and provides safety for bathing, swimming, beach sports and water sports.

A walking path is being constructed to enter the Colombo Port City from Galle Face Green and general public can visit the Colombo Port City at no charge.
