President Ranil Wickremesinghe will chair the 55th meeting of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Board of Governors today.

Wickremesinghe arrived in Manila, the Philippines, yesterday (28), where the headquarters of the ADB is located, to attend the meeting.

Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena is expected to join Wickremesinghe at the ADB meeting. Wickremesinghe is also scheduled to meet Philippine President Bongbong Marcos during his visit.

Prior to arriving in the Philippine, he was in Japan to pay his respects to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, during the state funeral at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.

During his visit to Japan, Wickremesinghe held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and also met with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi.

During the meeting, Hayashi expressed Japan’s keenness to play a leading role in bringing Sri Lanka’s official creditors to one table to restructure the island nation’s debt.
