Ravi K says award in recognition of country’s financial discipline

Sri Lanka’s financial discipline has been recognized internationally by selecting the country’s Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake as the ‘Best Finance Minister of the Asia Pacific Region’ by the London-based financial magazine ‘The Banker,’ a Finance Ministry statement said yesterday. 
Minister Karunanayake was quoted in the statement as saying that the award was not a personal victory for him but an achievement by the entire country. 
The award ceremony was held at the headquarters of the ‘The Banker’ in London on March 24.

Minister Karunanayake received the award from ‘The Banker’ Chief, Brian Caplen.
“The award was conferred on Sri Lanka for its efforts to take the country towards new economic reforms and changing public attitudes in support of such goals.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has been conferred the ‘Best Finance Minister of the Asia Pacific Region 2017’ award by the ‘The Banker’ magazine in recognition of his successful efforts to manage the country’s economy and, bringing the economy to sustainable level,” the Finance Ministry statement said. 
It added that Minister Karunanayake was able to prevent a financial crisis which loomed due to the  balance of payment situation and restore the country’s monetary reserves thereby rebuilding confidence in foreign investors.
