Senior Advisor to President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Climate Change Ruwan Wijewardene, who is attending the Climate Summit in Kenya on behalf of the president, along with High Commissioner in Kenya Kana Kananathan, took time on the sidelines of the event to inaugurate a Ceylon Biscuits Limited outlet, showcasing its renowned products at the Kenyan Food Expo event in Nairobi.
This significant event marks the Munchee-fame prominent local biscuit manufacture Ceylon Biscuits Limited’s expansion into the African market. Ceylon Biscuits, with a substantial market share in Sri Lanka, has long been a leader in the biscuit industry.
Its decision to venture into Africa reflects its commitment to providing high-quality products to a global audience while contributing to international trade and cooperation.
Many leading food manufacturers from several countries participated in the event. Ceylon Biscuits Limited was the only Sri Lankan food manufacturer to participate in the event in Nairobi. The purpose of participation was to secure an entry into the lucrative East African and other African markets, with special emphasis on Kenya, which is considered the gateway to East Africa, said the company’s Director International Sales Nadeeja Karunathilaka and Assistant Manager International Rajeewa Weerasinghe. The opening of the Ceylon Biscuits outlet at the Food Expo in Kenya is a testament to the growing economic ties between Sri Lanka and Kenya. It also underscores the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. This venture aligns with Sri Lanka’s vision of expanding its trade footprint into African markets and enhancing collaboration in various sectors.
The Ceylon Biscuits outlet showcased a wide range of Ceylon Biscuits products, known for their taste, quality and innovation. This initiative is expected to provide Kenyan consumers with a delightful experience of Sri Lanka’s culinary excellence. While speaking at the event, Wijewardene expressed optimism about this new chapter in Sri Lanka’s economic outreach, stating, “The opening of the Ceylon Biscuits outlet in Kenya symbolises the commitment of Sri Lanka to fostering stronger ties with our African counterparts. It also represents the global recognition of Ceylon Biscuits as a brand synonymous with quality and taste. We look forward to expanding our presence in Africa and exploring further avenues for collaboration.”
