SL gets euro 11mn technical assistance grant from German govt.

Attygalle signed the agreement on behalf of Government of Sri Lanka while Ambassador for Germany in Sri Lanka Jorn Rohde signed on behalf of Government of Germany in the presence of External Resources Department Director General Ajith Abeysekare and GIZ Sri Lanka and the Maldives Country Director Christiane Einfeldt

An agreement was signed by the Government of Sri Lanka with the Government of Germany yesterday to obtain a technical assistance grant of euro 11 million, to implement two projects pertaining to vocational training and SME development.


A sum of euro 7 million has been allocated to vocational training in the Sri Lanka project, which aims to provide demand-oriented cooperative vocational training for young people.

With the objective of removing major obstacles to the global competitiveness of Sri Lankan SMEs, euro 3.5 million has been allocated to the project Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Sector Development in Sri Lanka.


A sum of euro 0.5 million has also been allocated under the Study and Expert Fund, which is utilised to finance preparation of new projects to fund small-scale projects and for financial German experts.The two projects will be implemented by GIZ of the German government.


The Government of Germany has been assisting the Sri Lankan government’s efforts to develop the vocational training and SME sectors by providing technical and grant aid cooperation through various interventions.


The signing of the agreement pertaining to the grant took place yesterday at the Finance, Economy and Policy Development Ministry.
