Visiting Sri Lanka has been made even more convenient as the pandemic eases across the world, with health authorities in the country removing the mandatory COVID-19 insurance requirement.

On Friday (17), the Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that the mandatory requirement of foreign passport holders to have insurance coverage for COVID-19 treatment has been lifted with immediate effect.

During the height of the COVID-19 spread in the initial stages of the pandemic, the MoH introduced the mandatory Covid-19 local insurance cover for inbound visitors which was offered at US$ 12 per person for a cover of US$ 75,000.

The cover which was for 30 days was later allowed to be extended up to 60 days, where for each 30-day extension an additional US$ 9 was charged per person.
