SL to develop island in the North as duty-free hub

Sri Lanka plans to develop one of the seven islands in the North as a duty-free hub in collaboration with a group of Indian investors, Northern Province Governor Jeevan Thiyagarajah said.
“We are going to convert one of seven islands in the North as a duty free island,” Thiyagarajah said. He also said he will be meeting 25 Indian business houses to discuss the project and get their assistance for it.

A spokesman from the Urban Development Authority (UDA) said some of its officials, Board of Investment, Civil Aviation Authority, and officials from relevant ministries will meet this Thursday to discuss the plan.
