SL to host Int’l Conference and Exhibition on New Digital Economy in 4Q23

Sri Lanka is gearing up to hold the International Conference and Exhibition on the New Digital Economy, scheduled for the latter part of the year.


This international exhibition aims to utilise technology to improve productivity and efficiency to overcome the current crisis. According to a statement by the President’s Media Division, the event will be rolled out recognising the means to accelerate various industries in this country from the current technological level to the technologies in the digital economy at times of new industrial revolutions.


A preliminary discussion was held earlier this week with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the relevant authorities were at the Presidential Secretariat to discuss the way forward for the event.

This exhibition will also introduce modern technology tools to the industrial sector of Sri Lanka to achieve this new digital economy by focusing on technical mEducation, transport, trade and agriculture under the leadership of Technology State Minister Kanaka Herath.


Addressing the meeting, Wickremesinghe stressed the need for the improvement of industrial education and training opportunities in Sri Lanka. The endeavour can be achieved by introducing modern technology required to surpass the new industrial technology and digital economy of the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions, he said.
Wickremesinghe added that it is also expected to make Sri Lanka an export hub infused with modern technology, able to support the government by promoting foreign direct investment in the service and export sectors, bring the best international practices to local industries and network with industry leaders.  Attending the discussion was Herath, secretaries of line ministries, representatives from the Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Board of Investment, Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka Information and Communication Technology Agency and private sector representatives.
