SLASSCOM, the national chamber for IT/BPM industry in Sri Lanka announced it will launch a one-day salary donation campaign in an effort to help ease the economic hardship faced by citizens due to the ongoing crisis. The SLASSCOM said it is launching a one-day salary donation campaign starting yesterday (May 10).

The campaign will come to a close on Friday (May 13). The association called on those in the IT/BPM sector to come on board and contribute to the fund.

“Together we can alleviate some of the immediate hardships faced by our fellow citizens and provide relief to make their days a little better under these crushing circumstances,” SLASSCOM said in a statement to the media. As the current shortages of essential items compounded by high price inflation have affected the most vulnerable communities in our country, SLASSCOM pointed out that the industry must come to the fore to provide assistance in this hour of need.

The vulnerable communities were identified as very low-income families, elderly homes, and orphanages.
The move to kick-off the donation campaign came after the provocation of pro-government supporters led to violence, injuries, loss of life, and damage to public property.

Furthermore, SLASSCOM called on all parties to respect the law and desist from violence, condoning violence, and circulating material that justify violence.

It urged the government and all elected representatives to put the country’s and its citizens’ wellbeing ahead of politics, and formulate national solutions to restore normalcy and economic revival without any further delay.
