National telecommunications services provider, SLT-Mobitel has set the record straight on recent media reports claiming that the company managed the Lanka Government Cloud and provided services to the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

In a statement to the media, SLT-Mobitel said it does not provide any such hosting services to the Lanka Government Cloud and confirmed that it does not provide hosting services to NMRA at its data centre.

“SLT-Mobitel firmly states and places on record that it does not provide hosting services to the ‘Lanka Government Cloud.’ Importantly, SLT-Mobitel confirms that it has not provided such a service to NMRA and no NMRA datais hosted at the SLT Data Centre,” a SLT-Mobitel statement said.

The response from SLT–Mobitel is linked to recent media reports that large cache of NMRA data, which included confidential information on the formulation of drugs and other supporting documents, had been allegedly erased from its database and a data-backup was unavailable.

According to media reports, NMRA had begun accepting online applications for the registration and renewal of drugs and such data was stored on the Lankan Government Cloud operated by Sri Lanka Telecom under the supervision of the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).
