The President’s Media Division yesterday said a six-member committee headed by former Secretary to the Cabinet of Ministers Sumith Abeysinghe has been appointed to select suitable professionals to lead State enterprises and regulatory and statutory bodies.

The other members of the committee are: former John Keells Holdings PLC Chairman Susantha Ratnayake, former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Hela Clothing Chairman Dian Gomes, Neurosurgeon Dr. Prasanna Gunasena and Senior Lecturer Jagath Wellawatte.

As previously reported by Mirror Business, former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga is not included in the latest committee.

The Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday invited experienced professionals to submit expressions of interest (EOIs) to be considered for appointment as chairpersons and board members of State-owned enterprises, regulatory bodies and other statutory institutions.

Sri Lankan professionals living overseas too are encouraged to submit their EOIs.

The EOIs should be submitted by December 18, 2019, by mail or email, to Additional Secretary to President, Secretary’s Bureau, Presidential Secretariat, Colombo 1 or [email protected].

“We want experienced and qualified people to head these organisations. We want them turned around so that they can become contributors to the economy, not loss-making burdens to the Treasury,” President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said at the appointment of his 15-member Cabinet last week.
