Sri Lanka attracted 241,663 tourists in the final month of 2019, down by only 4.5 percent year-on-year, signalling a considerable recovery in the country’s tourism industry, which dealt a crippling blow by the Easter Sunday attacks in April.
With the December uptick, Sri Lanka has ended 2019 with 1,913,702 tourists, achieving the revised arrival target set for the year.
The initial projection for 2019 was 2.5 million tourists but it was revised due to the Easter Sunday attacks.
Sri Lanka attracted 2.3 million tourists in 2018.
The largest source markets for tourists in December were India, followed by the UK and Russia.
