Sri Lanka has been ranked as the second most preferred destination in the Asia Pacific region for remote work, according to the Work from Wherever Index from Kayak.

The island nation is ranked second to Japan and outruns countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore, the newly-launched index revealed.

On a global context, Sri Lanka secured the 13th position, among 111 countries analysed by Kayak.
Sri Lanka bagged an overall score of 80, out of 100. From a total of 100 points, the island nation was given 80/100 for travel, 94/100 for local prices, 47/100 for health and safety, 41/100 for remote work, 25/100 for social life and 81/100 for the weather.

“Sri Lanka has very attractive local prices and affordable long-term apartment rentals, which create great opportunities for travel.

Digital nomads will definitely appreciate the good weather conditions all year round,” said Kayak, the world’s leading travel search engine, in a statement that released the final rankings under the index.

It added that another significant factor that speaks in favour of choosing Sri Lanka for workstations is the visa for digital nomads that was recently introduced.

The Work from Wherever Index from Kayak is aimed at becoming the ultimate source for those looking to set up a new office away from home temporarily or for a longer period of time.

The unique index has been developed by ranking 111 countries, based on 22 factors, across six categories.
The categories analysed are travel costs and accessibility, local prices, health and safety, remote working capabilities, social life and weather.

The index essentially reveals the countries that are easiest to work from while having fun during off hours.
