Sri Lankan jewellery designer wins CPAA international award

Chamal Jayaratna, Sri Lanka’s award-winning jewellery and watch designer, has won the Luster Award for Foam and Pearls  Earring,  at the 2021 International Pearl Design Competition (IPDC) USA, organised by the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA).


This winning piece represents the evolution of best-selling pearl jewellery designs bearing covetable and marketable concepts with wide appeal for the marketplace. Last year he won the Visionary Award.


Jayaratne also has won the Best Design in the ring category and final round award in the earring category at the MIJF Jewellery Design Awards 2020 international competition.  Jayaratna, the first Sri Lankan featured as an alumni of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), is of the first Sri Lankan pioneer in designing jewellery using the advanced technology CAD and 3D prototyping. In addition, he is one of the leading Sri Lankan designers to be awarded in world-class events while working with luxury platforms.


Jayaratne has won the following: In 2018, Presidential Gold award for best designer NGJA Sri Lanka, 2017 Award of Distinction USA at the Spotlight is On You jewellery design contest - JCK Las Vegas show, 2016 Platinum Award Basel World Design contest Switzerland, where his creation ‘Secret of the Sea’, was taken to the world-class jewellery exhibition stage, 2016 Silver award - JUNWEX 2016 Best Design Competition, Moscow Russia, 2015 Silver award Solidscape Basel World Design Competition Switzerland, 2015 third place ELLE Design Worldwide competition – USA, 2015. He has won national and international awards.
