Sri Lankan team shines at IFMA Muay Thai Youth World Championship

The Sri Lankan contingent made an impressive mark at the IFMA Muay Thai Youth World Championship 2024, held from September 12 to 19 in Bangkok. Competing against 3,500 athletes from 152 countries, Sri Lanka secured a remarkable total of 19 medals, including 2 Gold, 9 Silver, and 8 Bronze, across various categories, showcasing the nation’s rising talent in Muay Thai.

The championships saw standout performances from athletes representing several clubs across Sri Lanka. The 28-member team was composed of competitors from IMA, Mathugama, Ultimate, UMA, Infinity, and Kaanchana clubs. 

This outstanding performance highlights the strength and depth of Sri Lankan Muay Thai, with athletes excelling in Combat, Wai Kru, Mai Muay, and Muay Thalay categories. Notably, Dahami Kulasinghe and Rukkaiya  Azhar emerged as leading performers, winning Golds and Silver medals.

The felicitation ceremony was held on 6th October, organized by the Kalugamuwa Awakening Front and the Crystal Line Friends Club in Gelioya. Prizes were handed over courtesy of Diamond Milk Powder.
