Star receiving a coveted Gold at the 5th edition of People Development Awards
Star Garments Group (“Star”) emerged victorious at the recently held SLITAD People Development Awards for 2023/24, clinching a coveted Gold award in recognition of its continued efforts in embracing some of the best-in-class human capital practices, setting new benchmarks in Sri Lanka’s apparel industry.
Organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Training & Development (SLITAD), the 5th edition of the People Development Awards was held on August 4th at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo, bringing together and celebrating organizations championing HRD practices that contribute to the growth of their people and the nation.

Sukumaran.
This award is a remarkable achievement for Star, having participated for the first time. Star has been consecutively recognized in the list of Best Workplaces in the Manufacturing and Production industry by Great Place to Work.
The world-class apparel sourcing, design and manufacturing company currently employs a team of over 10,000 dedicated associates who are at the helm of driving innovation and sustainability and ensuring that the highest standards and quality are upheld. Star Garments is today a catalyst in the growth of Sri Lanka’s apparel sector with over four decades of experience. Star is also widely regarded as a champion in sustainability, with eight of its factories LEED-certified including the first passive house factory building in the world. It recently also expanded its operations to West Africa, with plans underway to build a large-scale apparel export manufacturing factory in Togo backed by US$ 15 million financing package by IFC, which will go on to provide around 4,520 direct and indirect jobs.
