The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) yesterday welcomed the latest update of UK travel advice on Sri Lanka.

“This is very positive news for our travel industry and very timely. Although we may not see an immediate impact on arrivals as the country is closed for foreign visitors at the moment, it’s an endorsement of the great steps taken by the country collectively in handling the virus and builds confidence for future travellers who are interested in visiting the country,”

THASL said in a statement.Although the advisories can change from time-to-time, THASL members said they are committed to extend their fullest support to the government in the battle against COVID-19.

“Already a large number of hotels have been offered to be used as quarantine facilities to ease the burden on the nation and hoteliers have also come forward with various offerings for the frontline staff to show our appreciation and gratitude for their selfless work.

“Some hotels are offering room nights free-of-charge, some are giving discounts at their restaurants and even a complimentary wedding for a lucky couple is on offer. Whilst their service is immeasurable, it’s a collective effort from the industry to show them how much they are appreciated,” the statement added.
