  • All holidays to SL till Aug. 31 cancelled

London-based leading tour operator TUI made a fresh announcement this week that it has axed more holidays to Sri Lanka, due to the ongoing turmoil in the island nation.

The announcement highlighted that the travel and tour operator has been forced to delay holidays to the country, as it faces constant economic problems and political uprisings.

The escalating cost of living, shortages in essentials and challenges in transportation, along with the government reimposing a state of emergency, led the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to continue to advise against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka.

“As a result, we’ve unfortunately had to cancel all holidays to Sri Lanka departing up to and including August 31, 2022,” TUI said.

The programme to the country was previously cancelled until August 22.
TUI started holiday cancellations to Sri Lanka in May and has progressively extended the ban amid mass unrest in the country over its ongoing economic crisis.

The company said it would be proactively contacting all impacted customers in departure date in order to discuss their options.
It stressed that the advice does not apply to customers transiting through Sri Lanka’s international airport.
