Tea exports continue to decline in April

Tea exports continued to decline in April, following the downward trend seen in the previous months of the year. 
As per the data compiled by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers, April tea exports fell 2.13 percent year-on-year (YoY) to 16.16 MnKgs.
April was the fifth consecutive month that recorded a decline in tea exports. 
All product categories witnessed declines against the corresponding month of 2022.
The cumulative exports for the January to April 2023 period totalled 70.75 MnKgs, a decline of 14.3 percent YoY.
During the January-April 2023 period, bulk tea and packeted tea exports record declines while the remaining product categories recorded a marginal increase.

Turkey continued to maintain its position as the largest importer of Ceylon Tea, with an increase of 92 percent YoY during the January-April 2023 period. 
Russia secured the second position, narrowly surpassing Iraq, whose exports had declined by 51 percent YoY. 
The United Arab Emirates moved down to the fourth position, having decreased imports by 28 percent YoY. China ranked as the fifth largest market for Ceylon Tea, with imports declining by 15 percent YoY. Other notable importers were Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Germany.
