Tea production in 1Q22 dips by 15% YoY

Tea production for 1Q22 contracted by 15 percent year-on-year with March output totalling 22.02 MnKgs.
Tea production in March dipped by 6.79 MnKgs when compared with the corresponding month in 2022. The output is also an 8.49 MnKg decrease when compared with March 2020, when the country was struck with the COVID-19 pandemic. Cumulative analysis shows that for the January-March 2022 period the production totalled 63.10 Mnkgs. 

The output for the said period is a significant decrease of 11.41 Mnkgs when compared with 74.51 Mnkgs achieved in the corresponding period in 2022. On a cumulative basis too, all elevations have shown a decline over the corresponding period of 2021, a report by Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said. However, when compared to 53.68 Mnkgs output of January-March 2020, cumulative production of 2022 shows an increase of 9.42 Mnkgs.
Furthermore, on a cumulative basis, all elevations have shown a gain over the corresponding period of 2020.
