A ten-acre plot of land covering the Air Force Stadium, Slave Island Police Station and Helitours Ticket Office, reserved for a mixed development project, is to be handed over to the Management Board of the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

A Cabinet Memorandum for the project has been submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa for approval after the election.

This mixed development plan has been prepared on the west side of the Beira Lake, releasing it to new investors under a public-private partnership model.

It has been decided to hand over the land to the Urban Development Authority, taking into consideration the present land use requirements under the Colombo City Development Plan.
The operations of the Air Force will be shifted to the Tri-Forces headquarters in Akuregoda, while the existing police station and quarters will be renovated and maintained on the same premises.

Although the Air Force Stadium, which was about 3.5 acres, was to be left as open space in the original plan for the development of the area, under a revised plan, this land will be provided for property development.

Adjacent 5.5 acres of land along Baladaksha Mawatha to Shangri-La Hotel will be left as open space.
