Tourism authorities say arrangements in place for tourists to get back home

• Say SriLankan operates daily flights to UK, Melbourne, Narita
• Extends support to fly out tourists via charter flights
• Immigration authorities say 18, 093 tourists in the country

Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities yesterday said arrangements are in place for international tourists to get to their home countries, and charter flights will be allowed to fly them out on request.

As of March 25th, there are approximately 18,093 international tourists in the country according to immigration authorities.

Sri Lanka Tourism said they are closely working with the Foreign Ministry and respective Embassies/High Commissions to arrange necessary facilities for these tourists.

Though arrivals to Sri Lanka are suspended, all departures are supported and SriLankan Airlines operates departure flights daily to UK, Melbourne and Narita. 

“Sri Lanka Tourism would facilitate any country to fly out their nationals on holiday or on work here; back to their home country via charter flights on request,” a statement said.

Sri Lanka Tourism requested service providers in the industry currently hosting international tourists to support them with airport transportation, and air tickets could be used as curfew passes.

Tourists who are unable to find transport to get to the airport are requested contact the closest police station or Sri Lanka Tourism 24/7 on hotline 1912.
