Tourist arrivals as of third week of March cross 75,000 mark

  • India maintains position as largest source market 
  • Russia slips further from second to third position

Tourist arrivals as of the third week of March crossed the 75,000 mark, bringing the total arrivals to the country for the year to 254,150. 


As the third week of March, 75,316 international visitors had entered the country. The average daily arrival for the month was 3,586. 


The data shared by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed that India remains as the largest source market for Sri Lanka tourism, replacing the Russian Federation. 


Russia, which was the second largest tourist traffic generator, slipped to the third position in the third week of March and the United Kingdom moved up to the second position.

Ukraine, which was amongst the top 10 source markets for Sri Lanka tourism, is no longer in the list, as the country’s air space being closed due to the ongoing conflict. 


Other notable markets include Germany, France, Poland, Kazakhstan, Australia, the United States and Canada.
