Tourist arrivals to Maldives at 1.5mn by November-end

The Maldives has recorded an impressive number of international visitors entering the archipelago with tourist arrivals for the first 11 months of the year nearing 1.5 million.


According to the recent statistics by the Ministry of Tourism Maldives, annual tourist arrivals have reached 1,491,236 as of November 30, 2022. This is an increase of 28.8 percent, when compared with the corresponding period in 2021 where the country attracted a total of 1,157,653 tourists. 


However, when compared with the pre-pandemic period, the 2022 annual tourist arrival is about 2.6 percent lower when compared with 2019. By the end of November in 2019, tourist arrivals to Maldives stood at 1,531,539.

For November 2022, tourist arrivals reached 14,687, which is a 1.5 percent growth Year-on-Year (YoY). Maldives currently has a daily arrival average of 4,465, where the average duration of stay per tourist is 8.1 days. According to the Ministry of Tourism Maldives, the ranking of the top source markets remain unchanged. For the first 11 months of the year, India ranked as the largest tourist traffic generator for Maldives, followed by Russia, and the United Kingdom. Other notable markets include Germany, Italy, and the USA.
