The Maldives welcomed a whopping 131,863 international visitors in August, making it the eighth consecutive month for tourist arrivals to cross the 100,000 mark.
The daily average arrival figure for the island nation is 4,296.
According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry of the Maldives, the arrival count so far in the Golden Jubilee Year of tourism is an increase of 42.7 percent compared to the same period of 2021 and a 4.9 percent drop from 2019. The largest source market is India, which accounted for 14.2 percent of the arrivals. In 2019, the Indian market was the second top market during the period. The second largest number of tourists came from the UK, which accounted for 11.4 percent of the total arrivals for 2022 and the third largest source market is the Russian Federation, which accounted for 11.4 percent of the arrivals as well. Russia was the sixth largest market in 2019. In addition, the other largest tourist markets include Germany, Italy, the United States, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.
Of the tourist accommodation facilities, 1,178 have been opened. The facilities have a capacity of 58,369 beds. These facilities include 164 resorts, 843 guesthouses, 156 safaris and 13 hotels.
