Concerns by Sri Lankan trade unions regarding the resolutions passed by the European Parliament and the possible risk of GSP Plus withdrawal were discussed yesterday, at the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, with the participation of Regional Cooperation State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the five trade unions: Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union, Free Trade Union Confederation, Ceylon Trade Industry and General Workers Union, United Trade Union Confederation and National Union of Seafarers Sri Lanka.

The trade unions’ concerns and upcoming challenges were discussed at length with the Foreign Minister, pointing out that Sri Lanka is closely working with the European Commission to address the issues raised by the European Parliament.
