US cautions citizens travelling to Sri Lanka during holidays

The United States embassy in Colombo yesterday cautioned US citizens hoping to visit Sri Lanka during the upcoming holidays.

The embassy advised the US citizens to “exercise increased caution” when travelling to Sri Lanka.

“In acknowledgement of upcoming holidays, the U.S. Embassy reminds American citizens of the current Level 2 Travel Advisory (Exercise 
Increased Caution).

Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas,” the embassy website said.
