Uber Eats has introduced an in-app tipping feature enabling users to tip their favourite restaurants as well as delivery partners, to support the industry during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Amidst the efforts made by restaurants to keep their operations running, the in-app tipping feature allows users to voluntarily add a Rs.150 tip for their favourite restaurants.

Delivery partners are helping people in self-isolation access healthy food options and to appreciate the service of delivery partners, they can tip anywhere between Rs.20 or an amount of their choice. All tips will be credited directly to the accounts of restaurants and delivery partners.

Commenting on the new tipping feature, Street Burger Director Ameen Al Thariq shared, “The restaurant industry is deeply affected due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Many restaurants have seen huge declines in sales and have either laid off employees or considered shutting down. This new Uber Eats initiative provides an extra layer of support for hardworking restaurant staff and we would like to thank Uber Eats for thinking of us during these challenging times.”

Uber Eats Sri Lanka Lead Bhavna Dadlani added, “The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lives of many Sri Lankans, including our delivery and restaurant partners. We’ve introduced the tipping feature to help support the industry during crucial times like this, after hearing several requests from our users to engage themselves in the process as well. We believe a collective effort by Uber Eats, restaurant and delivery partners as well as our users showcases both solidarity and provides support for the industry when they need it the most.’’
