Union Assurance appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Union Assurance PLC, one of the largest life insurance companies in Sri Lanka, has appointed Jude Gomes as the new Chief Executive Officer.


Gomes will officially take office from December 1, 2019.


He is a senior financial services professional in the life insurance and banking industry having more than 27 years of experience in banking and senior insurance roles. He currently holds the position of CEO and President, Manulife China Bank Life Assurance Co. Philippines and has been with Manulife Group since 2012.


Prior to that he was attached with HSBC Canara BC Insurance as SVP and Head of Channel; as Head of Bancassurance, Vietnam (STA) at HSBC Insurance (Asia Pacific Holdings Limited); and as part of Regional Business Development at HSBC Insurance (Asia-Pacific) Holdings
Limited, working across APAC countries.

Gomes has many significant milestones in his career. He was the Founder member to launch India’s first privatised Life Insurer, HDFC Standard Life and Founder member of India’s first Bancassurance Life Insurer, HSBC Canara OBC Life Insurance.Gomes was successful in pioneering bancassurance in Vietnam, scripting two exclusive deals and establishing Manulife Vietnam as the market leader.


Further, he was also one of the business strategists who shaped the path for Manulife to enter the Myanmar market. Adding toGomes’ accolades, is being the Winner of Manulife’s Global Star of Excellence in 2013 and 2015 and Standard Chartered APAC Award in 1999.
