Verité Research Assistant Analyst Senith Abeyanayake was recently announced as one of the eight Sri Lankans this year to receive the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.
The scholarship, awarded by the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships programme, offers support for scholars worldwide to pursue any eligible master’s degree at any UK university of their choice.
Abeyanayake will be pursuing an MSc in Economics for Development at the prestigious University of Oxford as a Chevening Scholar. He cited his work and research experience at Verité Research a key motivation in choosing to purse this avenue of study.
Abeyanayake first joined Verité Research in 2020, having been exposed to Verité’s research through mainstream and social media. As a graduate in economics as well as a student pursuing an LLB at the University of Colombo at the time, Abeyanayake felt that Verité Research’s mission of enhancing critical discourse through relevant and credible information and analysis was very much alignment with his own goals.
During his time at Verité Research, Abeyanayake worked in a number of research areas such as regulatory economics, public procurement and international trade and was able to develop and refine his approach to research and analysis through the opportunities to experience first-hand the complete research lifecycle. He developed skills in building research proposals, conceptualising methodologies, data analysis, writing, research dissemination as well as advocacy. He was also able to gain invaluable experience in managing research projects as well.
