WSO2 Inc., a leading independent software vendor specialising in open-source API management, integration, identity and access management (IAM) products and internal developer platform technologies, participated in the recently concluded YGC Innovation Festival 2024 in Jaffna.

Renowned for uniting the spirit of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, the festival provided an insightful experience for entrepreneurs, IT professionals and technology enthusiasts. WSO2’s masterclass on open-source licensing and business models was a highlight of the event, offering valuable insights to attendees.

“Our passion for imparting knowledge and building awareness around open-source licensing will hopefully contribute to the ongoing growth and success of open-source initiatives in Sri Lanka. During the masterclass, participants gained comprehensive insights into the world of open-source software (OSS) licensing, covering several critical aspects, including the types of licences and their uses,” said WSO2 Integration Business Unit Senior Vice President and General Manager Selvaratnam Uthaiyashankar.

WSO2 Legal Director Tania Samarasinghe added, “The objective of the masterclass session conducted by WSO2 was to educate attendees about the different open-source licences, along with their legal and practical implications. It was an interactive session as we provided guidance on how to comply with these licences and contribute effectively within open-source communities.”

The masterclass hosted by WSO2 discussed the different types of open-source licensing and their implications, best practices for compliance and contribution and how organisations can leverage open-source licensing for innovation, open source business models, cost savings and community engagement.

Tania covered the legal aspects of OSS licensing while Shankar explained practical examples of how to incorporate these into actual projects. The festival was organised by Yarl IT Hub and was held at the Jaffna Cultural Centre.

YGC Innovation Festival ’24 featured a series of activities designed to inspire and engage participants, including pitch competitions, student expos, hands-on workshops and insightful masterclasses.
