WindForce PLC is ceremonially inaugurating the 10 MW Kebitigollewa Solar Power Project today.

The event’s distinguished guests of honour are Ambassador of Japan Hideaki Mizukoshi and Power and Energy Ministry Secretary Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena.

Situated in Hadagala, Kebitigollewa, in the Anuradhapura district, this cutting-edge solar power project spans 35 acres and is poised to significantly enhance the national grid with an estimated annual output of 20.24 GWh.
The project features a fixed tilt structure with a 10-degree south-facing orientation, comprising 23,296 PV modules and leveraging advanced Huawei string inverters and transformers.

A hallmark of the Kebitigollewa Solar Power Project is its all-women technical team, exemplifying WindForce PLC’s dedication to gender equality and empowerment within the renewable energy sector. This initiative not only fosters diversity but also underscores the vital role women play in driving technological and sustainable progress.

This project is the first in Sri Lanka to receive a clean energy subsidy grant under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) programme between Japan and Sri Lanka, highlighting the collaborative efforts of both nations in promoting green energy solutions. The financial partnership with Amana Bank further exemplifies innovative financing models supporting sustainable infrastructure development.

WindForce PLC has spearheaded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) aspects of the project, ensuring superior quality and efficiency. The generated power will be transmitted via a newly constructed 12- kilometre transmission line from the plant to the Kebithigollewa Gantry, ultimately connecting to the Vavuniya grid substation.

The company extends its heartfelt gratitude to Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, Power and Energy State Minister Indika Anuruddha, the Ceylon Electricity Board, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), District Secretariat Anuradhapura, Divisional Secretariat Kebitigollewa, Forest Department, Central Environmental Authority and all other authorities that supported this initiative. Special thanks are extended to Ven. Wattegama Nipuna Thers for his invaluable support.

As the Kebitigollewa Solar Power Project is unveiled today, it signifies a pivotal advance in Sri Lanka’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development. WindForce PLC’s unwavering dedication to pioneering and inclusive energy solutions sets a benchmark for future projects, contributing to a cleaner, greener future for all.
