The Asiri Port City Hospital has been designated as a ‘Primary Business of Strategic Importance’ and will qualify for a series of exemptions or incentives.
Cabinet nod was given this week to grant the entity the status. Asiri Port City Hospital (Pvt) plans to develop a hospital in the port city of Colombo with an investment of US$ 100 million. The state-of-the-art hospital will have a 500-plus bed capacity.
The proposal was presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Minister of
Investment Promotion.

Accordingly, Asiri Port City Hospital will qualify for a series of benefits as per the guidelines on the Grant of Exemptions or Incentives to Businesses of Strategic Importance - Regulations, No. 2 of 2023.
The Department of Government Information said the project being acknowledged as a primary business of strategic importance will be announced through a gazette order. The order will then be tabled in parliament.
While the proposed project is in line with the Master Plan of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission of Sri Lanka, it will be one of the four main strategic and large-scale social infrastructure development projects identified within the Port City Colombo. Last year, Asiri Port City Hospital Ltd partnered with Mayo Clinic, a global icon in healthcare, education, and research, to provide strategic and/or operational
consulting services.
