Ayodhya new MD at Sampath Bank

Sampath Bank has formally announced the appointment of Ayodhya Iddawela Perera as the new Managing Director of Sampath Bank PLC, with effect from July 1, 2023.

Perera’s appointment comes in the wake of retirement of incumbent Managing Director Nanda Fernando, with effect from June 30, 2023.

“The board at its meeting held on May 25, 2023, resolved to appoint Mrs. Ayodhya Iddawela Perera as Managing Director of the bank, which appointment has been approved by the Director of Bank Supervision of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka,” a stock market filing by Sampath Bank said. Counting over 34 years of service in banking, with both local and international exposure, Perera is recognised as one of the outstanding personalities in the banking industry. 

Starting her career at entry level of Sampath Bank, a young and trailblazing bank, the journey continued in gaining experience covering all areas of banking, specialising in corporate and international banking and credit control, which paved the way for her to become the versatile business leader she is today. 
Perera, a qualified professional banker, possesses a Master of Business Administration degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, 

University of Sri Jayewardenepura and was awarded Senior Fellowship from the Institute of Bankers - Sri Lanka, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Sri Lankan banking industry. She is an alumnus of Girls’ High School, Kandy. 
Perera, as a value-driven business leader, firmly believes in teamwork and has over the years successfully upheld that culture in the bank, which is one of the key strengths of Sampath Bank. 
As the upcoming Managing Director of Sampath Bank, her vision is expanding the horizon of the banking industry in Sri Lanka as a key driver of the economy.
