Bernard Botejue Industries makes history once again for manufacturing and exporting the first shipment of weighted blankets from Sri Lanka to the USA and Canada for the popular brand Bearaby.

The Napper Unit of Kolonna Manufacturing (Pvt.) Ltd, an associate company of Bernard Botejue Industries, was set up in May 2022 to undertake the manufacturing of the hand-knitted weighted blankets. Weighted blankets are heavy quilts that are used to aid sleep and reduce anxiety. Initially, weighted blankets were most commonly used as therapeutic tools to assist individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), dementia and mental health conditions. These blankets have now become a popular mass-market product.

Birthed in the height of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, this new venture has overcome many obstacles to successfully kick start operations.  Bernard Botejue Industries Chairmen Janaka Botejue sharing his views on this project said that he is “happy to be adding to the country’s US dollar revenue, which is very much needed in the current economic climate”.
